More than three decades after the original game debuted in 1993, a prequel is finally on the way—an unexpected but welcome move from Smallthing Studios.
Simon the Sorcerer Origins will be published by Inin Games, with a Special Edition version including a Pony DLC available for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Pre-orders are already open through the Inin Games Store. The new game invites players to return to the enchanted world of magic, sarcasm, and mystery to learn how it all began. Longtime fans will be pleased to know that Chris Barrie (English) and Erik Borner (German) are reprising their roles, adding an extra layer of authenticity and nostalgia to this origin story.
The game features an original soundtrack composed by Mason Fischer, capturing the full emotional range and whimsical tone of Simon’s magical universe. In a surprise twist, the iconic Rick Astley also joins the cast in a special role, infusing the adventure with a dose of 1980s charm. Simon the Sorcerer Origins blends classic point-and-click sensibilities with modern design: hand-drawn visuals, witty puzzles, and a story filled with both humor and heart—not to mention Simon’s trademark sarcasm.
“We are thrilled to welcome Simon the Sorcerer Origins into the Inin family. The Simon the Sorcerer series holds a special place in the history of adventure gaming and played a crucial role in shaping the genre. It’s an honor to collaborate with Smallthing Studios on a title that both pays homage to the original games and introduces a magical new world to a whole new generation of players,” said Helmut Schmitz, head of Inin Games, in a press release.
“We are excited and proud to officially announce the partnership between Smallthing Studios and the amazing team at Inin Games for the full-scale release of Simon the Sorcerer Origins—across all platforms—over thirty years after its original debut on Amiga and PC back in 1993! Huge thanks go out to everyone behind the scenes and to the fans who’ve been waiting so patiently. The curtain is finally rising,” added Massy Calamai, founder of Smallthing Studios and director of the game.
Simon the Sorcerer Origins will launch on October 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
