It’s a Gardy World

Deck Strategy

Most of your Pokemon TCG matches are going to play out differently, but most of your ideal setup is going to remain the game. Gardevoir ex decks ramp up to being able to do massive amounts of damage later on in the game, but the first half of the game revolves around getting set up to get to that point. Let’s jump into it:
- You’ll want to start off the game by getting out a few copies of Ralts [Astral Radiance] with Nest Ball [Scarlet and Violet], Battle VIP Pass [Fusion Strike], Fog Crystal [Chilling Reign], Ultra Ball [Scarlet and Violet] and Level Ball [Battle Styles]
- An ideal board state turn one for this deck would have 3 Ralts, 1 Radiant Greninja [Astral Radiance], 1 Zacian V, and an empty spot. That empty spot should go to either Manaphy [Astral Radiance] if they have anything that snipes your Bench or Mew [Celebrations] if they don’t
- Each turn, you’ll want to try to discard Psychic Energy with Radiant Greninja, and Kirlia, and build up a Zacian V in the process so that you can swing big in the mid-to-late game
- When it comes to attacking, you’ll want to attack with Gardevoir [Chilling Reign] and Zacian V, but you’ll need to see how much damage they can each take from Psychic Embrace. Zacian V can handle more but is worth 2 Prize Cards
- Towards the end of the game, you’ll want to plan bigger attacks against their Pokemon that are worth 2 Prize Cards, and maybe you’ll even be able to draw an extra Prize Card with Sky Seal Stone [Crown Zenith]
- The biggest thing to be mindful of are the resources you have in your deck, the resources you’ll need, and having a plan to draw your Prize Cards as efficiently as possible
Ralts
Kirlia and Radiant Greninja
Both of these Pokemon are going to help you discard Psychic Energy with their respective Abilities, and that helps you scale the amount of Energy you can accelerate with Gardevoir ex’s Psychic Embrace Ability. While it is usually advisable to discard Psychic Energy (and you can only discard Energy with Radiant Greninja), you also need to factor in if you should attach Energy from your hand to your Pokemon. Everytime you use Psychic Embrace, your Pokemon are closer to getting KOd, so I’m recommending that you are aware of that. If you can’t discard any Energy with Kirlia, Battle VIP Pass is another card that you can easily clear from your hand.
Gardevoir and Zacian V

These are our big attackers, and you’ll want to use them at different points in the game. When in doubt, attacking with Gardevoir is usually a better option because it offers up less Prize Cards than Zacian V, but it also has less HP. Less HP usually wouldn’t matter, but when you are accelerating Energy with Psychic Embrace and racking up the damage counters on that Pokemon, it can really add up. Similarly, Zacian V is worth 2 Prize Cards, but it has more HP, and can draw an extra Prize Card with Sky Seal Stone. This deck doesn’t have too many other attackers, so make sure to come up with gameplans with these ones most of the time.
Gardevoir ex
Gardveoir ex is our means to accelerate Energy to our Pokemon, and that’s about it. There are a few times that I’ve attacked with Gardevoir ex because of its massive amount of HP, but those have been rare occurrences. Always make sure you have a Kirlia on your Bench to Evolve or a Ralts that can use Rare Candy, because you need to be able to use Psychic Embrace.
Cresselia

Mew and Manaphy
Psychic Energy
With all of these notes, let’s look at it all put together as a deck! The following deck is Tord’s Finalist deck from EUIC!
Tord’s EUIC Gardevoir ex Deck

Almost everyone who has ever played Pokemon has heard of Tord Reklev, arguably the best player of all time, but if you haven’t, he is likely the best player of all time! This is his most recent Gardevoir ex deck that he took all the way to a 2nd place finish at the 2023 European International Championships in London, United Kingdom. Nothing too crazy, but the deck is purely consistent! Let’s check it out!
