How to Configure the Best PC for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

If you’re ready to take to the skies in Flight Simulator 2024, having a powerful PC is essential for enjoying the breathtaking realism it offers. The detailed textures, terrains, and hundreds of aircraft will simply bring an off the shelf PC right to its knees. Microsoft has really upped the ante this time with enhanced graphics, complex weather systems, and more realistic AI, so here’s how to build the best PC for an optimal Flight Simulator 2024 experience, in order of component priority.

CPU

Like previous iterations, Flight Simulator 2024 is CPU-intensive, especially with all its detailed landscapes and real-time calculations. A high-end processor like the Intel Core i7-14700k or AMD Ryzen 9 9900X will handle the simulator’s demands, ensuring smooth frame rates and responsiveness during complex scenarios. Aim for at least eight cores to balance performance and longevity, with 12 cores more ideal for power users.

Graphics Card (GPU)

The visual experience in Flight Simulator 2024 is unmatched, so a top-tier GPU is non-negotiable. An NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX will deliver high frame rates at 4K with ultra settings, or for multiple monitor set ups. If you’re on a budget, an RTX 4070 Super can still provide excellent performance at 1440p with the 4060 suitable at 1080p. Remember, the better the GPU, the more immersive your experience.

RAM

Flight simulation needs ample memory to avoid stutters during intense sequences. At least 32GB of RAM is recommended at 5200MHz or higher, especially if you plan to run other programs in the background. Faster RAM will improve performance somewhat, especially with systems with lesser CPU, but total capacity is the more important spec.

Storage

A high-speed NVMe SSD is a must to reduce loading times in Flight Simulator 2024. Even though FS2024 is actually a smaller install than 2020 due to better compression and optimization, we recommend at least 1TB storage capacity to get you some extra headroom. Drive speed will accelerate load screens and boot times, but will not directly impact in game performance.
