MOVIE NEWS – What may seem like a wild gamble for a strategy title is actually proof that the new Game of Thrones game means business: PlaySide even set up a specialist team just for dragons while developing Game of Thrones: War for Westeros.
The race to cast Amazon’s next James Bond just got even messier — and a lot more interesting. For months, speculation swirled around well-known names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson (28 Years Later), Theo James (The Gentlemen), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), and ex-Superman Henry Cavill. But there’s a new face gaining traction among bookmakers and fans, and he’s got a twisted track record that sets him apart from the competition.
That rising name is Patrick Gibson. Even if you don’t instantly recognize him, the Irish actor has built an impressive résumé with performances in The OA and Shadow and Bone. His biggest break? Stepping into the shoes of a young Dexter Morgan (yes, the serial killer who kills other serial killers, a role first made famous by Michael C. Hall) for Dexter: Original Sin. But that’s not what’s suddenly catapulted Gibson into the 007 conversation.
Instead, rumor has it that Gibson is secretly the new digital James Bond in the highly anticipated game 007 First Light. The title, due out in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and more, just revealed its debut trailer — and eagle-eyed fans are convinced the character model and voice are unmistakably his.
Could Patrick Gibson Actually Be Bond Material?
Despite the online sleuthing, neither Amazon nor the game’s developers have made Gibson’s role official. In fact, director Jonathan Lacaille addressed the mystery head-on in a recent statement:
“Our priority is making sure players get excited about the game first. We want to introduce them to this new world, to our choices in genre and story. That’s our main message for today. The game’s name alone is huge news. As for who’s in the cast and behind the voices, we’ll dig into all of that later this summer, once we can reveal more about the story.”
Still, Gibson is already shaking up the odds. According to PaddyPower, he’s now sitting at 15/8 — a meteoric rise for a relative newcomer. If he is indeed the next digital Bond, it’s easy to see why Amazon would look to him as a live-action replacement for Daniel Craig, especially since the reboot is rumored to reimagine 007 as a much younger, more dangerous version of the iconic agent.
