The Nintendo Switch 2 craze is so huge that thieves have stolen 2,810 consoles in a historic heist. Authorities estimate the value of the stolen content at more than $1.4 million.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is barely out of the gate and already making headlines for all the wrong—and right—reasons. Nintendo has confirmed a phenomenal launch, with over 3.5 million units sold in just days. Demand has been so fierce that not everyone scored a console at launch, prompting the company to apologize in regions like Japan for missing pre-order targets. But America’s obsession with the hybrid console reached absurd heights this week, as thieves managed to pull off a record-breaking heist involving hundreds of units.
First reported by 9NEWS via My Nintendo News, a total of 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were stolen from a truck meant to transport them from Nintendo of America in Redmond, Washington, to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas. With each unit retailing at $499, the missing cargo is valued at more than $1.4 million.
Authorities revealed the truck driver noticed several pallets missing during his pre-trip check, realizing someone had broken into the trailer. He reportedly had no idea what the shipment actually contained—only that it was “game or toy related.” So far, there are no leads on the daring thieves behind this massive grab.
