This What We Do in the Shadows Portrait Is Dead and Out of This World

Yes, that’s Laslzo‘s infamous witch-skin hat peeking from behind his back in Mondo’s stunning new What We Do in the Shadows poster by artist Robert Laskey, but hopefully (presumably!) its curse hasn’t transferred into the artwork. Also present and accounted for: Nadja’s doll, inhabited by Nadja’s ghost—or at least, the ghost of the human Nadja that died when she became a vampire.

Here’s the exclusive reveal of the full poster:

These peculiar accessories make perfect sense if you’ve seen the FX vampire comedy starring Matt Berry as Laszlo and Natasia Demetriou as Nadja—vampires married for centuries who still keep things spicy, even if they bicker frequently and are often confounded by 21st century life on Staten Island.

The show launches its sixth and final season tonight with a trio of episodes that remind us of how much we’re going to miss Laszlo, Nadja, and their roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), as well as Nandor’s former familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

“I love monsters, so when I was contacted by Mondo to do a poster for What We Do in the Shadows, a show about some of the funniest monsters out there, I was more than thrilled!,” Laskey said in a statement provided to io9. “The biggest challenge was having to choose only a couple of the vampires and humorous elements to put into the painting. Laszlo’s witches’ hat was suggested by Josh Manderville [Mondo Art Director], and I thought it would be fun to include Nadja’s doll of herself.”

“I wanted to capture Laszlo’s pompous nature, so I chose to have him posing in a manner reminiscent of those classical self-aggrandizing military portraits. For Nadja, with her haughty personality, I figured she would most definitely want to be portrayed seated on her throne at the Vampiric Council. Moody greens and blues make for an eerie atmosphere; and the subjects being vampires, well, it seemed fitting that there be some accents of red.”

We love Laszlo and Nadja together, but if Laskey is looking to make this a series, Nandor and Guillermo should absolutely be his next subjects.

If you would like to add Mondo’s 24 x 36-inch, limited-edition, eight-color screenprinted poster for FX’s What We Do in the Shadows to the walls of your crumbling mansion—or crypt, or apartment, whatever—it’s on sale tomorrow, October 22, at 10 a.m. PT for $80 on Mondo’s website. The art is by fantasy, sci-fi, and horror illustrator Robert Laskey; color separation is by Juan Saniose.

What We Do in the Shadows drops the first three episodes of season six tonight on FX, streaming next day on Hulu.
